Customers running a range of Windows Server releases can grab a new tool from Microsoft designed to help them connect their Windows PCs to servers.

The software giant is offering the Windows Server Solutions Find My Server Wizard via the Microsoft Download Center.

The resource is available at no cost and is extremely simple to use.

“Windows Server Solutions Find My Server Wizard is a tool that helps users find Windows Home Server 2011, Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials, or Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Essentials server on the network so that they can install the connector software,” the Redmond company revealed.

Of course, users can also set up a connection manually, but the Find My Server Wizard streamlines the process.

The tool also enables users to connect their Windows clients and servers even in the eventuality that they are unable to set up a connection manually.

“If you type http://<ServerName>/connect in the address bar of your web browser (where <ServerName> is the name of your server) and the server is not found, use this tool to help you find the server,” Microsoft added.

“When you download and run the tool, it locates the User Datagram Protocol (UDP) beacon on the server, and then opens the server Connect site.”

Once they downloaded the Windows Server Solutions Find My Server Wizard .CAB file, customers need to extract the content to a location they can access easily.

The tool can be launched via the Run dialog box, by simply typing the path to the FindMyServer.exe.

The Find My Server Wizard is the second tool that Microsoft releases under the Windows Server Solutions umbrella.

Earlier this week I told you that developers have available the Windows Server Solutions SDK from Microsoft, also for Windows Home Server 2011, Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials, and Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Essentials.
