While on January 9, 2009, Microsoft struggled to increase the number of servers in the infrastructure dedicated to serving Windows 7 Beta Build 7000, and ended up postponing the Beta until January 10, the company did manage to offer the Windows SDK for Windows 7 and .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1. 7.0.7000.0.4011.WindowsSDK_Windows7_idw.WindowsSDK.DVD.Release is packaged as an ISO image, which will have to be burned on a DVD, since it weighs no less than 1304.8 MB.

Microsoft underlined that the software development kit did not include a .NET Framework Redistributable Package. Moreover, fact is that, just as Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 come to the table with .NET Framework 3.0, so does Windows 7 offer .NET Framework 3.5 SP1.

“The Windows SDK for Windows 7 and .NET Framework 3.5 SP1: BETA provides documentation, samples, header files, libraries, and tools (including C++ compilers) designed to help you develop Windows applications using both native (Win32) and managed (.NET Framework) technologies,” Microsoft stated.

With the Windows 7 Beta bits available for download to the general public, and with the Windows SDK for Windows 7 and .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 also up for grabs, developers can now crank up the building of applications for the next iteration of the Windows platform. Microsoft informed that the SDK was designed to play well with x86, x64, and IA64 platform architectures, including Windows XP SP3, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, and Window 7 Beta.

“For this release, the Windows SDK is available thru a DVD ISO image file, so that you can burn your own DVD. Due to the large size of the ISO file, we highly recommend that you use a download manager tool to manage the ISO download. To verify that your download of the ISO file for the Windows SDK is correct, check that the CRC and file size match the following: CRC: 0x6B263FF1 Size: 1336078 KB,” Microsoft informed.
