Despite being a key part of the Windows Live Essentials package, Windows Live Messenger Wave 4 has been treated somewhat differently, and moved to a more prominent position than the rest of the suite. The application is after all the center of the world’s largest instant messaging community, and the recipient of perhaps the most comprehensive evolution of all the Essentials rich clients. As of June 24th, the first public development milestone of Windows Live Messenger Wave 4 is available for download, along with the rest of the Windows Live Essentials Beta.

“One of my favorite things about Messenger is the ability to update my status for both Windows Live and Facebook all through Messenger and to view and comment my friend’s Facebook activities right through Messenger. Oh and tabbed IM in Messenger is simply awesome. Oh and with my LifeCam Cinema – HD video chatting is crazy cool,” revealed Brandon LeBlanc, Windows Communications Manager on the Windows Client Communications Team.

Windows Live Messenger Wave 4 now allows users to enjoy enhanced management of their sessions by supporting conversation Tabs. This was one of the features that has been at the top of request lists for quite some time, and a number of IM clients makers managed to implement it before the Redmond company. But one of the strongest selling points of Windows Live Messenger Wave 4 is its intimate connection with social networks Twitter and Facebook. The instant messaging client is a social tool itself, and it makes only perfect sense to be connected with two of the most important social communities worldwide.

Remember, just as it is the case with Windows Live Essentials Wave 4, the next generation of Messenger is designed to support only Windows 7 and Windows Vista. Microsoft has unveiled the decision to not provide support for Windows XP earlier this year, and it looks like the Redmond company is sticking to this strategy.
