A new resource from Microsoft is designed to enable customers leveraging Windows Embedded Device Manager 2011 to extend the tool beyond the capabilities offered by default.

The Redmond company has released a software development kit for Windows Embedded Device Manager 2011 which is up for grabs through the Microsoft Download Center.

Customers running Windows Embedded platforms might already be familiar with Windows Embedded Device Manager 2011, which the software giant released earlier this year, during the Microsoft Management Summit (MMS) 2011, in March.

With the advent of Windows Embedded Device Manager 2011, customers leveraging System Center Configuration Manager 2007 could benefit from an expansion designed to also cover Windows Embedded operating system.

Specifically, Windows Embedded Device Manager 2011 made it possible for IT pros to use System Center Configuration Manager 2007 for Windows Embedded Standard and Windows Embedded POSReady devices.

In this regard, the SDK offered by Microsoft free of charge provides customers the opportunity to enhance SCCM2007 even further.

“This SDK is for device manufacturers that want to integrate their existing device imaging solution with System Center Configuration Manager by using a COM or DCOM component that they develop, and for administrators who want to use Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) to script or automate administrative tasks with Windows Embedded Device Manager 2011,” Microsoft explained.

Obviously, IT professionals can take advantage of the SDK in order to simplify even more the management of a range of Windows Embedded devices, included: Thin Clients, Point of Service, Digital Signage and Kiosks.

“Windows Embedded Device Manager 2011 enables enterprises to deploy, assess and update Windows Embedded devices, providing a single management solution that offers enhanced insight and control over IT infrastructure and systems by extending the capabilities of System Center Configuration Manager 2007,” the Redmond company reveals.
