One of the best archiver and compressor applications, WinZip has just been launched in the Google Play Store, formerly known as Android Market.

Although developers introduced the iPhone and iPad version early this year, Android fans were left out until recently. However, starting today, WinZIP can be installed on Android smartphones as well.

The first version of the application allows users to extract and archive files on their Android phones and/or tablets.

In addition, users will also be able to view contents of archived files, as well as open and save zip files on their device regardless if they are received in email as attached files, downloaded from a site or directly opened from a memory card.

WinZip 1.0 is now available as a free download via Google Play store and it should be fully compatible with all devices running Android 2.1 and up.
