14 DAY TRIAL // Intego has contacted Softpedia with news that its web cleaning utility for Mac OS X, Washing Machine, is now available for download from Apple’s Mac App Store. The 10 dollar app works with Mac OS X Leopard and Snow Leopard.
Washing Machine cleans up files created by web browsers and other programs that access the Internet.
Basically, it helps by deleting files that take up space or present privacy risks.
“Intego Washing Machine helps manage this information, preventing others from seeing what you've been doing, and keeping your hard disk spic and span,” the Austin, Texas company says.
“Washing Machine helps you protect your privacy by making it easy to delete such information, wiping the tracks that your web browsers and other programs record when you use the Internet,” according to its developers.
Users can rid their systems of these files manually or automatically, and use secure cleaning to ensure that the files can never be retrieved.
The software supports five types of items - Bookmarks, Caches, Cookies, Download Histories, and Browsing Histories.
Compatible with most web browsers and various programs that store information without the user’s knowledge, Washing Machine 2 uses “cleanlists” to store the items users want to clean, and “smart cleanlists” to find items to clean according to specific conditions.
In addition to web browser, Washing Machine ‘looks after’ RSS readers, e-mail programs, Twitter clients, Flash, Java, Spotify, development apps, and even Apple’s own iTunes, and Front Row applications.
QuickTime, Help Viewer, System Preferences, Dashboard and other apps that keep caches are also rinsed out by Washing Machine.
As noted above, Washing Machine works with Mac OS X 10.5 or 10.6, while the Mac App Store version requires Mac OS X 10.6.6 (Snow Leopard), and supports Mac OS X 10.6.7 as well.
