Blizzard Entertainment has released new patches for fans of WarCraft III: Reign of Chaos and its expansion pack, The Frozen Throne. Bringing the game to version 1.24e, the latest update fixes several exploits and other kinds of bugs found by gamers throughout the fantasy, real-time strategy game for Mac and Windows.
The Warcraft III v1.24e patch notes reveal that Blizzard has been able to fix an exploit rendering buildings non-interactable ("tower hack"), as well as an exploit allowing a player to bypass a summon ability's cooldown (known as the "summon/cooldown hack").
Before attending to other bugs, the giant game studio was faced with having to resolve a third exploit, this time allowing the Blood Mages's Phoenix to be resurrected instantly (aka "phoenix hack"). Finally, Blizzard came around to fixing a client crash related to workers failing to build in an unintended way ("new crash hack"), as well as a bug allowing players to select an invalid matchmaking race resulting in all the player's units and buildings becoming sheep ("sheep hack").
In a similar manner, patches
1.24c and
1.24d delivered mostly fixes, all of which are detailed in the release notes posted at the Battle.net forums. These patches represent Blizzard’s commitment to offering the best gameplay experience for its long-time fans, among whom Mac users are a significant install base.
Speaking of which, those who only have Reign of Chaos installed on their Macs will only need to download and run the Reign of Chaos Patch. Those who also have the Frozen Throne expansion pack installed will only need the Frozen Throne patch. As usual, Blizzard asks gamers to note that, if their copy of Warcraft III is already patched to version 1.23, they will only have to install the upgrade patch version 1.24.
To check your current Warcraft III version, launch Warcraft III on your Mac and look at the bottom right-hand corner of the startup screen. Gamers who have recently installed / reinstalled the game, or have not patched Warcraft III in a long time will need to download and install the full 1.24 Universal Patch, according to Blizzard.
