14 DAY TRIAL // Hamrick Software’s VueScan, the powerful scanning tool aimed at helping users get the most out of their scanners, has received a new update. The software is packed with an array of powerful features. It currently supports over 1,200 scanners and 321 digital camera RAW files, and is available for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux.
Besides the aforementioned capabilities, VueScan automatically adjusts images to an optimum color balance, which reduces the need to employ Photoshop, and do these tasks manually. Designed to produce colors that look true to life, VueScan includes a built-in color calibration of scanners. It offers options for scanning faded slides and prints, batch scanning, IT8 color calibration and other advanced scanning features, and supports more than 100 brands of negative films.

The release notes for VueScan 8.6.17 reveal that Hamrick Software has improved automatic cropping and speed of changing frames, as well as the Turkish language support. A problem with some older SCSI HP scanners has been addressed as well.
To update your existing version of VueScan, just download the latest one from either the developer’s website or Softpedia, and double-click the resulted DMG file. After dragging the new version to your Applications folder, VueScan will automatically recognize if you've already purchased it, and the latest one should just work. Upgrades to new versions are free in the first year after you purchase the Standard Edition, while those who purchase the Professional Edition always get these upgrades for free. While there’s only one file to download, VueScan operates as a trial version when you first download it. The Standard Edition or Professional Edition features are enabled depending on your actions – whether you purchase and enter a serial number.
