A new wave of Windows Vista Service Pack 2 releases is currently available for download for end users running the first service pack of the operating system. With the latest Vista SP2 downloads Microsoft is offering all the gold versions of the second service pack for Windows 7's successor packaged as DVD ISO images. SP2 follows in the footsteps of SP1, and in this regard it is designed to upgrade both the previous versions of the Windows client and server operating systems with SP1 installed, namely Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 RTM.

On June 30, 2009, Microsoft announced officially that it had released the remaining localized versions of Vista SP2 on Windows Update. What the Redmond company failed to mention was the fact that the remaining flavors of Vista SP2 for specific supported markets around the world had also gone live on the Microsoft Download Center and that they were up for grabs. According to Microsoft, Vista SP2 RTM and Windows Server 2008 SP2 RTM DVD ISO Standalone All Versions were initially offered on June 22, 2009.

No less than four separate downloads are currently offered by the software giant: Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 and Windows Vista Service Pack 2 - All Language Standalone DVD ISO (KB948465); Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 and Windows Vista Service Pack 2 - ALL Language Standalone (KB948465); Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 and Windows Vista Service Pack 2 - ALL Language Standalone for x64-based Systems (KB948465) and Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 - ALL Language Standalone for ia64-based Systems (KB948465).

“SP2 is an update to Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista that incorporates improvements discovered through automated feedback, as well as updates that have been delivered since SP1. By providing these fixes integrated into a single service pack for both client and server, Microsoft provides a single high-quality update that minimizes deployment and testing complexity for customers. Service Pack 1 is a prerequisite for installing Service Pack 2. Please make sure that your system is running Service Pack 1 before you install Service Pack 2. Note: Windows Server 2008 released with Service Pack 1 included,” Microsoft informed.

The Redmond company also detailed the contents of each download. For Vista SP2 Language Standalone DVD ISO - “This is a DVD ISO image that contains Service Pack 2 for Windows Server 2008 SP2 for x86, x64, IA-64 and Windows Vista for x86, x64.
