The recently turned open source VLC player is now available on iOS platforms, as intended years back. A new version has been pushed out by the gents at VideoLAN, containing bug fixes and tweaks.

VLC for iOS version 2.0.2 described as “a quick release to fix the major issues of the first release.”

One of the targeted areas is MPEG audio decoding, which includes MP2 and MP3 formats. Another is Dropbox integration, while navigation and VoiceOver also get some tweaks.

Various UI bugs reported by customers on iOS 5 have been addressed, along with some CSS issues on the Wi-Fi Upload page, and subtitle issues for Greek, Cyrillic, and Vietnamese. Various crashes and “misbehaviors” are also patched. Finally, the update adds VLC:// protocol handler.

VLC for iOS requires any iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad running iOS 5.1 or newer versions.
