Microsoft has refreshed the Windows PowerShell 2.0 Core Help and is providing customers with the updated download allowing them to leverage the resource in CHM format.

The Windows PowerShell 2.0 Core Help - May 2011 Update is live on the Microsoft Download Center where it can be grabbed free of charge.

Windows PowerShell 2.0 Core Help in CHM format is a download designed to allow IT administrators access to the help topics in offline mode. But as IT pros undoubtedly already know, the resources are also available online.

“The Windows PowerShell 2.0 Core Help - May 2011 Update CHM file includes updated Cmdlet Help, Provider Help, and conceptual "About" Help topics for the core commands that are built into Windows PowerShell 2.0,” Microsoft stated.

“The CHM file is enclosed in an executable (.exe) file for secure access. This download does not include Windows PowerShell 2.0 or Help topics for Windows PowerShell Integrated Scripting Environment, or any other Windows PowerShell modules. Earlier versions of these Help topics are included in Windows PowerShell 2.0. To see them, at the Windows PowerShell command prompt, type "Get-Help".”

Customers can also visit the Windows PowerShell Core site on TechNet in order to get the same help topics as those available for download.

On the Microsoft TechNet Script Center, IT pros will also be able to find an overview of Windows PowerShell 2.0.

Windows PowerShell 2.0 is included by default into Windows 7, but the software giant also backported the technology to earlier versions of Windows, including Vista and XP.

“Windows PowerShell is a task-based command-line shell and scripting language designed especially for system administration. Built on the .NET Framework, Windows PowerShell helps IT professionals and power users control and automate the administration of the Windows operating system and applications that run on Windows,” the company said.

Windows Management Framework (Windows PowerShell 2.0, Windows Remote Management (WinRM) 2.00, and Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) 4.0) is available for download here.
