Microsoft has refreshed the software designed to bridge Office Outlook email client with its online email services. The updated Outlook Connector is now available for download, but users should be aware of the fact that the version number continues to be 12.1. Office Outlook Connector 12.1 was initially made available in mid-December 2008, and the latest iteration is simply an update designed to soften some of the rough edges of the previous release.

“I am pleased to announce we have released an updated version of Outlook Connector 12.1. This version addresses a few issues that were reported since the December release of 12.1,” revealed Alessio Roic, Outlook program manager. “If you are using the 12.0 version of the Outlook Connector, or if you had already installed the original version of Outlook Connector 12.1 (version 12.0.6414), you will be automatically required to upgrade when you boot Outlook and try to synch your Hotmail account.”

However, the full build string did indeed change in order to reflect the update introduced by the software giant. In this regard, users will notice that the full version number of the new Outlook Connector is 12.1 (12.00.6423.1000), moving away from the 12.0.6414 of the initial release of version 12.1. Roic informed that the new version number was similar for all versions of the Outlook Connector, independent of their language.

“Please make sure to restart Outlook once the latest version of the Outlook Connector is installed to ensure the add-in is correctly installed,” Roic explained. The Microsoft Office Outlook Connector 12.1 can be used in order to synchronize Office Outlook 2003 or Office Outlook 2007 with Windows Live Hotmail and Office Live Mail accounts. The tool is offered as a free download, and users can leverage it in order to manage their emails, but also contacts and even calendars right from their desktop email clients.
