The latest version of Exchange Server has been released to manufacturing in the first half of October 2009 and made available to customers the next month. Last week, the Redmond company also made available an update package for Exchange Server 2010 offered through the Microsoft Download Center. Update Rollup 1 for Exchange Server 2010 (KB976573) is a standalone download up for grabs since December 9th, and is designed to resolve a range of issues discovered in the latest iteration of Exchange Server after the product RTM’d. Customers that have already left Exchange Server 2007 behind and moved to Exchange Server 2010 Enterprise or Exchange Server 2010 Standard, are advised to deploy the refresh package as soon as possible, as Microsoft notes that installation is highly recommended.

“When you install the update on a computer that is not connected to the Internet, you may experience long installation times together with a corresponding message that states, “Creating Native images for .Net assemblies." This is caused by network requests to connect to “http://crl.microsoft.com/pki/crl/products/CodeSigPCA.crl ” Web site and look up the certificate revocation list for each assembly that Native image Generation(NGen) compiles to native code. Because the Exchange Server is not connected to the Internet, each request must wait to time-out before it moves on. To resolve this problem, you must turn off “Check for publisher’s certificate revocation” on the server that is being upgraded,” Microsoft revealed.

The Update Rollup 1 for Exchange Server 2010 needs to be installed on top of Exchange Server 2010 RTM. The software giant also informed that customers will need to delete all interim updates for Exchange Server 2007’s successor starting to integrate the update rollup.

Microsoft has provided an exhaustive list of all the issues that Update Rollup 1 for Exchange Server 2010 is designed to resolve:
