A new flavor of the official Twitter application is now available for download for the owners of Android-based devices, namely version 4.1.6.

The new application iteration makes it easier for users to follow conversations on the social networking site straight from the small screen of their handsets.

Following the update, users will see that a conversation between people they follow is marked with a blue line on their home timeline, Twitter explains.

Furthermore, the first tweet in the conversation is now listed right above the most recent reply, with all messages that are part of the conversation being listed in chronological order.

When it comes to long conversations, Twitter will display only up to three tweets in a sequence on the home timeline, but users will be able to tap one reply to see all of them, even those coming from people they don’t follow.

However, this is only one of the enhancements that the new Twitter 4.1.6 for Android arrives on devices with, as there are also various performance and security improvements included in the update, along with new notification settings and bug fixes for direct messages, login verification, and more.

Additionally, the micro-blogging company specifically notes that, following the update to the new app release, users will be able to report tweets as being abusive or as spam.

“Additionally, you can now report individual Tweets for abuse or spam directly from Twitter for Android and Twitter.com. This feature will be rolling out gradually; it’s already available on Twitter for iPhone,” the company announced.

The new Twitter for Android release also comes with enhancements for entry-level Android smartphones that feature limited storage, courtesy of optimizations destined to result in an improved overall experience.

“For these devices, the Twitter app is now less than half the previous size, making it much faster to download and easier to install. We’ll continue to work on improvements targeted at entry-level Android smartphones so that Twitter is more accessible to people everywhere around the world,” the company announced.
