The default BitTorrent and Magnet client for Ubuntu

The development team behind the famous Transmission torrent downloader app have just announced the final and stable release of Transmission 2.50.

Transmission 2.50 is a major upgrade to the popular BitTorrent client, bringing lots of improvements in various areas, as well as assorted bug fixes.

Transmission 2.5 will most probably be the default torrent client application for the upcoming Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) operating system, and other upcoming distros as well.

Highlights of Transmission 2.50:

All Platforms:

· Fixed a program crash when some magnet links were added; · Better support when downloading large file webseeds; · Webseed downloads' compressed data is now correctly handled; · The bandwidth is now distributed fairer across connected peers; · Calculating undownloaded portions (for large torrents) eats less CPU; · In order to select peer candidates the Selection Algorithm is now used, rather than sorting; · Base-10 units is now used for displaying disk space and bandwidth speed; · If natpmp exists in the OS it will be used by default, instead of the bundled version; · Fixed the Fails-To-Build error for Solaris 10 OSes because of mkdtemp(); · Fixed the Fails-To-Build error for FreeBSD OSes because of alloca(); · Fixed the Fails-To-Build error when a C++ compiler is now used for building libuTP.

GTK+:

· Fixed an issues causing the "--minimized" command-line argument to broke; · The org.freedesktop.Notifications DBus API is now used instead of notify-send; · Fixed various small memory leaks.

· FTB was fixed when building on Debian without support for libuTP.

Web Client:

· Added filtering by tracker and state; · Added sorting by size; · The toolbar buttons are now easier-to-press and larger; · Fixed time remaining and torrent size in the details tab of inspector; · In order to avoid 3rd-party CDNs, the stylesheets and jQuery were bundled; · jQuery 1.7.1 is now used; · Runtime errors in Opera, IE 9, and IE 8 were fixed; · CSS stylesheets can now use SASS; · The interface was tweaked a litte.

Daemon:

· Fixed transmission-remote corrupted status string.
