The Transmission application, a popular BitTorrent client among Mac users, has received a new update that contains a bunch of new features, as well as fixes for all supported platforms. Mac users in particular have a few changes to note.

Originally built to be a powerful, yet lightweight BitTorrent client, Transmission boasts a simple, intuitive interface that cater to the Mac fan base.

The program is fully open source, with most of its code licensed under the liberal MIT License. Select code in Transmission is also licensed under the GNU General Public License.

With that out of the way, avid fans of the software will surely want to learn what’s changed in the last version.

If that’s you., we’ll have you know that Transmission 2.40 Beta delivers  torrent queuing, improved webseed support, and several fixes, including one for a crash when removing a magnetized transfer, and one with adding transfers over RPC when a subfolder does not exist.

As noted above, the Mac client gets some exclusive stuff. This includes two Lion-only changes: the use popovers for the global and per-torrent action menus, and animations in the inspector's file list and the message window.

Also only on the Mac, the developers have added the option tosort transfers by size. The app no longer keeps track of recently opened torrent files either.

Finally, Transmission 2.40 Beta for Mac is cosmetic altered with minor interface tweaks. Behavior adjustments are also mentioned.

Moving on through the release notes, the team of developers mentions that this new version adds GTK+ 3 support.

For the web client, there are speed improvements, filtering by tracker, new behavior that allows preference changes on mobile devices as well as compact view, stop ratio functionality, and more.
