The popular BitTorrent client Transmission has reached version 2.30 Beta 3, which brings µTP support and interface tweaks on Mac OS X, in addition to other changes shared by all supported platforms.

For all versions of Transmission (Linux, Mac OS X), the update delivers UDP tracker support, multi-scrape support, the ability to download scarcest pieces first, and a superseded "lazy bitfield" feature by the "Fast Extension" BEP6, in addition to µTP support.

Mac only changed include the Intel CPU requirement (no more support for PowerPC Macs starting with Transmission 2.3), the ability to remove all completed (finished seeding) transfers; the Web Interface is published over Wide-Area Bonjour; enhanced grouping rules; and Interface tweaks.

On GTK+, the developers have added 256 x 256 icon by Andreas Nilsson and the ability to register as a magnet link handler in the .desktop file. The Web Client gets Peer and Network preferences.

Since the release of Transmission 2.20, the Mac version of the app is more efficient as it uses fewer system resources (CPU, RAM).

For those who are not very familiar with the software, Transmission is a BitTorrent client and a popular peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing application with select code licensed under the liberal MIT License.

Licensed under the GNU General Public License, Transmission features a simple, intuitive interface designed to integrate tightly with any OS. On Mac OS X, it works and feels like a native app.

Versions older than Transmission 2.30 Beta 3 are Universal Binary, suitable for both Intel and PowerPC systems.

Transmission runs natively on Mac OS X and intelligently bans peers who send corrupted data. It seamlessly configures the user’s network, uses protocol encryption, and has built-in Peer Exchange.
