Berbie has updated its route planning software application, TrailRunner, to include a couple of improvements, as well as a trio of bug fixes. TrailRunner is free to download and use on any Mac running Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, or Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger.

TrailRunner can calculate a route for the desired distance, and export directions onto the user's iPod. This way, users get detailed orientation, while keeping the workout going. In recent releases, the company introduced the ability to display collected workout data within the program, matching the recordings with routes created by users. TrailRunner integrates with nikeplus.com, the online community for the Nike SportBand, and the Apple Nike+ iPod Sport Kit running devices.

According to the release notes for the latest TrailRunner 1.9.1 Beta, Berbie has improved selection and map scrolling behavior when modifying a selected route, and changed the input field structure for the ftp weblog upload to enable storage in deep directory structures that must not match the structure of the url to access this location within a web-browser. As for the fixes included in this release, some users may have noticed that removing a route by deleting a track scaled the view to the route's bounds. This issue has been fixed, according to the developers.

Also, the track accuracy being set in the info pane was not honored during track merge. Now it is, Berbie outlines. “In addition, if the accuracy for a track is being set to none, it has no effect on the result,” the developer adds. “If it is set to full, it replaces all candidates within the merge set. In all other cases the value represents the weight with which a candidate will be intermediated with the other candidates.” Lastly, TrailRunner 1.9.1 Beta 2 fixes a problem with scaling manually placed maps.

Note

TrailRunner is in prerelease state. All current releases of TrailRunner will run for about three months. Berbie urges users to update regularly to the most current version, as well as review and accept the License-Agreement that comes with the application, before using it.

TrailRunner versions above 1.6 (including the one available for download today) require Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard to run. The only remaining version supported on Tiger is TrailRunner 1.6. Both supported versions are available using the download link below.
