Flat Earth Games has announced the release of TownCraft 2.0.0, the iPhone edition of the crafting and city-building game that debuted on iPad. The game sells for $4.99 / €4.49 but the developer prides itself on not pushing in-app purchases onto customers.

Set in medieval times, TownCraft begins with you alone in the wilderness with the mission to start a new town.

“To the West lies King Oligarchy, a narcissist primarily absorbed by his own reflection. To the East: Queen Omnibus, busy 'taming' neighbouring kingdoms with the tip of her blade,” says the developer.

You sit in between these two egocentric leaders, and you have your way cut out for you as you begin by crafting the most basic of tools, like a hatchet made from a small piece of wood tied to a sharpened stone. You know, like in the stone age.

“...but before long your town will be teeming and with travellers from all across the land,” says Flat Earth Games.

“They'll buy your wares at the local shops, come to check out the sights, have some food and drink at your tavern, they'll come looking to trade with you, or work for you. Fish, farm, forage, hire, fire, and explore the bizarre and unique world of TownCraft.”

So that’s the basic plot. As a player you’ll enter a new world every time, test your skill at crafting hundreds of objects, build brides, workshops, windmills etc., play with real-time day and night cycle, the works! It’s a lot like Minecraft in some particular areas, but it’s not 3D.

Version 2.0.0 is the first iPhone version of the game. As a universal app, the same game can now be downloaded on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, with the promise the it will run natively regardless of your screen size.

In version 2 you also get an all-new building type, the ability to plant flower beds in various colors to make your town look nice, a revamped engine that runs faster on iOS 7, and a new interface for interacting with workers, peasants and nobles.

It's now easier to reach the 'Township' rating and if you’re tired of cooking potatoes and fish on the fireplace, the developer says you can now “put a chunk of them in your ovens all at once.”

Download TownCraft on any iOS 7-compatible device and enjoy. The game is localized in English only.
