Sony confirms that its long-awaited PS4 firmware update 2.00 launches tomorrow, October 28, and once again emphasizes its many different features, while showcasing a video with quite a few of them in action.

The PS4 is close to celebrating its one-year anniversary, after making its debut in North America on November 15, 2013. Since then, it's sold over 10 million units around the world and is currently leading the new generation of consoles in terms of popularity.

Unfortunately, Sony hasn't been doing that great of a job keeping the device up to date as regards features, as although it's rolled out quite a few firmware updates, many of them only improved the stability of the platform and its software, instead of bringing new things for users to enjoy.

A major update is coming today

Now, the latest and biggest system software update for the PS4 is set to go live tomorrow, October 28, around the world, and Sony is showcasing its many different features in a new post on the PS blog.

From the innovative Share Play function, which lets users play a game alongside a friend via the Internet, to a special YouTube application, live themes, and many other features, the new firmware for the PS4 is filled with great elements.

"This update adds unique, forward-looking features like Share Play and addresses some of the most highly requested features from the community including YouTube integration, music player, ability to find players you may know, sorting options for PS4′s game library, and themes that change the look of your home screen. This is the biggest update we’ve delivered to date for PS4," Sony explains.

Extra customization options and a revised interface are included

Besides Share Play and the YouTube application, PS4 owners can expect to finally be able to set their own themes and colors for the console, while enjoying the overhauled content area interface and the better game library.

A Music Player that can play back files found on a local USB stick is also included in the firmware, although it doesn't allow for the files to be copied to the PS4 hard drive. Instead, once you plug a USB memory with music files on it, the USB Music Player application will pop up in the menu. Bear in mind that it cannot be used at the same time as the Music Unlimited application.

PS Vita and PS TV firmware update 3.35 is also coming tomorrow

Besides the major PS4 firmware, tomorrow also marks the launch of a new system software update for the PlayStation Vita and PlayStation TV devices, which includes four-player Remote Play support for PS TV, a Live from PlayStation application, and a few other things.
