Apple released on Tuesday the Time Capsule and AirPort Base Station Firmware Update 7.4.2, which comes towards users with a series of bug fixes, as well as with some compatibility updates and some security improvements for the AirPort Extreme Base Station with 802.11n.

As many of you might already know, one of the requirements for the new Firmware version 7.4.2 is a prior installation of the AirPort Utility 5.4.2, a setup and management utility for Time Capsule, AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme, which offers enhanced ease of use and only needs Internet access. Those who already use one of the three products should know that the application enables a simple setup and configuring process for them.

The changelog for the Time Capsule and AirPort Base Station Firmware Update 7.4.2 shows that it has been released to:

- Fix some problems with extending and maintaining connectivity with extended networks; - Fix an issue with clients that enable 802.11 "Power Save;" - Fix connectivity issues with some third-party devices; - Fix an issue when the base station is configured for PPPoE; - Fix some Back To My Mac issues with connectivity and support for third-party routers.

The new Firmware Update 7.4.2 is available for users both via Software Update, as well as a standalone installer. The requirements list for the Firmware Update 7.4.2 also includes Mac OS X 10.4 or later, yet there is also a Windows version available, which should work just fine with Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 or better and Vista.
