AsusWrt-Merlin, well known for its customized firmware builds targeted at some of ASUS’ routers, has just made available new update packages that form its latest release, namely version 3.0.0.4.374.43.0.

This fresh firmware can be applied on ASUS’ RT-AC56U, RT-AC56R, RT-AC66U, RT-AC66R, RT-AC66W, RT-AC68U, RT-AC68R, and RT-AC68W routers, as well as on the RT-N16, RT-N66U, RT-N66U (ver.B1), RT-N66W, and RT-N66R wireless devices.

When it comes to changes, the present custom release adds a new user-configurable option that initiates a DDNS upgrade attempt, and updates MiniUNPnP and OpenSSL to versions 1.8.20140523 and 1.0.0m, respectively.

In addition to that, the new firmware resolves ASUS’ bug that was introduced along with GPL 4887 where guest users still had full access to the router regardless of any restrictions, as well as the one that rejected single character workgroups.

Moreover, the problems with media server page that didn’t allow users to enable iTunes server is resolved, the Traffic Monitor results are now correct even on PPPoE connections, and SSIDs networks that contain single quotes won’t break the client list anymore.

As for installing the current version, the procedure is the same as for its previous AsusWrt-Merlin Router Firmware 3.0.0.4.374.42.2 release, therefore make sure to apply it properly – an update failure can cause device malfunctions or, in a worst-case scenario, might even render it unusable.

That being said, if you intend to upgrade your router’s software version, feel free to download AsusWrt-Merlin Router Firmware 3.0.0.4.374.43.0 for the proper device model, apply the package, and enjoy the new changes that this release brings.
