Download ‘The Final Hours of Portal 2’ for iPad

The Final Hours of Portal 2, an iPad app that takes Portal fans deep within the top-secret office of Valve for an unvarnished, behind-the-scenes look at the making of its latest game Portal 2, has been released in the App Store.

Released yesterday with a price tag of just two bucks, the multimedia experience has already garnered positive reviews on iTunes.

The app comes with a 15,000-word story, complemented by dozens of photos, interactive diagrams and multimedia features, all gathered by longtime game journalist Geoff Keighley, and coded by Joe Zeff Design.

The Final Hours of Portal 2 Valve reveals that Portal 2 actually began as a prequel to the first game.

Interviews with Valve founder Gabe Newell and actor Stephen Merchant (the voice of Wheatley) are also featured.

Fans will learn how the story of Portal 2 evolved during development, complete with images and surprising details.

Speaking of which, one commenter on iTunes cautions that The Final Hours of Portal 2 contains a number of spoilers at one point.

Avid fans are encouraged to finish the game before downloading and using the app.

Interactive highlights include:

- Play with portals in an interactive diagram where you learn how portals work.
- 360 degree panorama photos of the Valve office and design labs.
- Listen to the songs that inspired the Portal 2 development team.
- Hear Jonathan Coulton's Portal 2 song in various stages of development.
- Puppet Wheatley in an interactive experience
- Destroy Aperture Science by wiping your fingers over the screen.
- Interact with fans and voice your opinion via polls and a feedback form.

The Final Hours of Portal 2 has been specifically designed to take advantage of the iPad’s big screen, and it only works with the iPad (iPhone and iPod touch not supported).

The app also requires iOS 3.2.2 or later, according to its developer.
