Professionals taking advantage of the System Center 2012 – Configuration Manager component can now download and install various add-ons and extensions for it.

Released with support for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, these releases arrive with full support for System Center 2012 Configuration Manager, Microsoft notes.

The add-ons and extensions included in the download are the Package Conversion Manager (PCM), the Physical to Virtual (P2V) Migration Toolkit and the System Center 2012 Configuration Manager Toolkit.

The Package Conversion Manager (PCM) in System Center 2012 Configuration Manager provides the option to convert packages and programs into applications and deployment types.

Soon, a migration feature will be added to the Configuration Manager 2012, so that packages could be brought from 2007 to 2012. The new release was made available in 4 languages.

The Physical to Virtual (P2V) Migration Toolkit was designed to offer re-utilization of existing x64 server hardware through virtualization, as well as via Windows Server 2008 R2 and Hyper-V.

The Toolkit was meant to help when remote Configuration Manager 2007 SP 2 site servers need to be retained during the side-by-side migration process to System Center 2012 Configuration Manager. It should prove a great option for remote offices that don’t have onsite Virtual Machine Manager infrastructure.

The Microsoft System Center 2012 Configuration Manager Toolkit comes with nine downloadable components, all destined to help in management and troubleshooting activities.

These components are: Client Spy, Policy Spy, Security Configuration Wizard Template for Microsoft System Center 2012 Configuration Manager, Send Schedule Tool, Power Viewer Tool, Deployment Monitoring Tool, Run Metering Summarization Tool, Role-based Administration Modeling and Auditing Tool, and License Tracking PowerShell Cmdlets.

Specific info on what each of these components in System Center 2012 Configuration Manager Toolkit does can be found on Microsoft’s website.
