Garmin International Inc. has announced its first turn-by-turn navigation application for iPhone, StreetPilot. StreetPilot for iPhone will be on display in the Garmin booth at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, alongside other solutions like Garmin Tracker, myMechanic, and My-Cast Lite.

According to its makers, the StreetPilot App is designed specifically for iPhone.

It features an intuitive interface that greets users with two simple options: “Where to?” and “View Map.”

Users can look up addresses and services and get voice-prompted, turn-by-turn directions that speak street names to their destination.

Other key benefits include free traffic alerts (which enable drivers to steer clear of traffic accidents, road closures and construction), lane assist with junction view (directs drivers to the preferred lane and displays realistic images of upcoming complex junctions), and speed limit indicators.

“Providing consumers with mobile applications is yet another way they can experience the benefits of Garmin – be it our navigation expertise or bringing the capabilities of our niche market products to a smartphone,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales.

“GPS is an extremely helpful tool, but we recognize it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution. We decided to introduce a new line of smartphone applications so that we can give customers a quality Garmin experience in the format of their choosing,” Bartel added.

Other features include:

-Integrated Local Search
-Millions of points of interest
-Address book integration to navigate to contacts
-Multitasking on iOS4 for navigating while calling
-Current weather conditions and forecast
-Place calls directly from search listing
-Navigate in both portrait and landscape mode
-Easy to install with quick load times

Garmin also confirmed that its StreetPilot app integrates with a driver's iTunes music library (integrated iPod controls), enabling them to access and control their music while cruising.

The StreetPilot App is compatible with iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and iPad Wi-Fi + 3G. It requires iOS 3.0 or later and costs $39.99 to download from the iTunes App Store.
