A brand new system software version is coming shortly

Sony confirms that a brand new PS4 system software update is going to debut soon, in the form of firmware version 2.03, which apparently improves the usage of some applications, although no other details have been given.

The PlayStation 4 came out over one year ago in many territories around the world and Sony soon saw that its console was quite popular, both in terms of sales and in terms of reputation, as millions of people decided to get its own home console, to the detriment of Microsoft's Xbox One.

Since then, Sony has rolled out quite a lot of different games, not to mention plenty of features for the actual device that answered the demands from fans.

After the major firmware update 2.00 that launched a few weeks ago, the company has already deployed several other system software versions in order to fix bugs and eliminate any glitches related to the performance of games on the device.

PS4 system software 2.03 is coming soon

Now, a brand new system software update is set to go live in the following hours, according to the official Twitter, in the form of PS4 system software update 2.03, which is set to arrive later tonight, and which, Sony says, "will help improve usage of some applications."

Unfortunately, in classic Sony style, no details have been revealed about what actual situations are remedied or what glitches are fixed by the latest firmware update, so it's unclear if fans who suffered from certain problems will find a solution in the new system software.

No changelog expected

Considering past Sony behavior, it's unlikely that a changelog with descriptions of the issues remedied by the update will be released at any point in time. The company is notorious for only bragging about new features added to the PS4's list of attributes in major firmware releases, while minimizing the amount of bugs that are fixed through these smaller updates for the console's system software.

The new firmware 2.03 for the PS4 is expected to go live in the following hours, so PS4 owners from around the world should expect a notification about its availability soon enough, when they connect their console to the internet.

The system software is going to be available for download via the PlayStation Network, and as always, a restart of the console is necessary during the installation process, so make sure you save your progress before exiting the game and actually running the update.
