Sony has confirmed that it's rolling out a new small firmware update for the PlayStation 4, taking the console's system software to version 1.74 and bringing stability improvements for various PS4 features.

The PlayStation 4 is in for a major firmware update, according to a recent announcement from one of Sony's representatives, but it seems that, until then, the company has just released another, smaller system software version for the PS4, taking it to version 1.74.

The new firmware is rolling out as we speak, according to the Twitter announcement, and should be available for download via the PlayStation Network in the near future.

PS4 system software update brings stability improvements for some software, but in classic Sony fashion, these haven’t been detailed, so it's unclear just what sort of problems have been fixed by the new firmware.

It is clear, however, that some of the most requested features from the community, such as better media playback capabilities and other new options, aren't included in the new system software.

It's possible that Sony is still testing these things and will deploy them in a major firmware update like 1.75 or 1.80. As of yet, however, this is just speculation, so take everything with a grain of salt until Sony steps forward with a concrete announcement.
