Sony has rolled out a new firmware to add an extra set of functionalities

Sony’s flagship mirrorless cameras, the A7 and A7R are receiving an update as of this week. The new firmware version 1.02 has been made available for both cameras and owners updating to the new software will be able to take advantage of a bunch of improvements and fixes.

So for those of you thinking of updating today, here’s what the goodies you should be on the look-out for.

1. Added new lens compatibility for SEL70200G which translates into auto focus speed improvement, color noise reduction and the addition of a bunch of new feats including the ‘Focus hold button.” Furthermore, the lens will now be fully compatible with the AF system on both the A7 and A7R models;

2. Reduced start-up time for the scenario, when the camera is switched on immediately after being switched off;

3. Overall improved image quality;

4. Added support for additional “Play Memories Camera Apps” and extra feats for previously supported apps. This means users are going to see apps like “Liveview Granding” and “Smooth Reflection” being made compatible. Moreover, there’s added support for smooth automatic exposure feat to be found in the “Time-lapse” application ver. 2.00 and later.
