Starting today, owners of Android-based devices can download and install a re-mastered version of the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 game, as SEGA has just pushed it to the Google Play Store.

Originally made available for the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive, the game provides users with the possibility to play as Sonic the Hedgehog and his flying sidekick Miles “Tails” Prower.

The title will allow players to run through environments such as Casino Night and Chemical Plant, while also aiming at achieving high scores.

“Speed back in time and discover the game that first united Sonic the Hedgehog with his amazing flying sidekick Miles ‘Tails’ Prower,” the game’s description reads.

“Run through high speed levels packed with enemies and hazards as you zoom along loop de loops in your mission to destroy the devious Dr. Eggman.”

According to SEGA, the new flavor of the mobile game has been built from the ground up to fit the needs of mobile phone users, with re-mastered graphics and audio, as well as with new content.

Users will race both as Sonic and Tails, while enjoying the aforementioned high speed environments in their attempt to destroy Dr. Eggman in epic boss battles. Those looking to reach high scores should play in Sonic 2’s iconic half pipe Special Stage.

In addition to what the classic game had to offer, Android users will also enjoy an all-new “Boss Attack mode,” which has been designed to “challenge the player to defeat all of the game’s devious bosses in one run. Additionally choose to play the game as Knuckles in addition to Sonic and Tails.”

Moreover, the new title will allow users to explore the mysterious Hidden Palace Zone, a series of lost levels that pack various undiscovered enemies and new hazards, as well as a climactic showdown with Dr. Eggman.
