Video-chatting fans using Skype to communicate with friends and families at a distance are being notified that a new version of the Mac client is available to address a rare bug that crashes the application in some circumstances.

Apparently, Skype for Mac doesn’t do a very good job on MacBook Pros with Retina display. Especially when the user also has an external monitor attached.

According to Beom Soo Park (a beta program manager for the Skype for Mac client) writing on the Skype Garage blog, developers learned that a “[a] crash occurred if [the] user has OS X Mountain Lion and Retina display with external monitor attached.”

Skype 6.0.0.2968 fixes said issue, restoring tranquility to the world of web communications. The application requires Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard) or later.
