Skype is excited to announce that the version 5.2 of their popular video chatting application is now available for download with group screen sharing and improved multi-tasking.

According to the Belgian software company, this new update allows Mac users to now share their screen during a group video call.

“While screen sharing is already available for free on a one-to-one Skype call, group screen sharing makes communication and collaboration on group calls even richer by enabling people to view presentations, photos and documents on a participant's screen, perfect for presenting a document to colleagues knowing they can't skip slides in advance or for sharing holiday photos with friends and family,” said Krishna Panicker, product manager, Skype for Mac.

]In his latest post on the ‘Big’ Skype blog, Panicker outlines that one or more call participants must have a Skype Premium subscription in order to take advantage of group video calling and group screen sharing.

As noted above, Skype 5.2 also introduces video in the call control bar for those who multi-task during a video call.

The Skype for Mac Product Manager explains, “With Skype 5.2 for Mac, if you're on a video call and wish to switch to another program, you can still see the person you're talking to, as well as be able to hang up, or mute - all from the call control bar.”

Panicker hopes Mac users find this new feature useful, as they’ve been carefully listening to their demands.

He also points Mac customers to the guide loaded tons of tips & tricks to further improve the Skype for Mac experience.

To run Skype 5.2 on a Mac, you will need a 1GHz Intel processor, Mac OS X v10.5.8 (Leopard) or newer, 100 MB free disk space, a web cam and a microphone.

I'm still waiting for Skype to be released in the Mac App Store. I'm also waiting for my parents to buy a MacBook, so we can use FaceTime and don't have to use Skype anymore.

I'm wondering which of these two will happen first.
