Microsoft has released Skype 4.15 for iPhone and iPad, a new version of the popular video chatting client for Apple customers that addresses some issues, speeds up loading times, and improves behavior under iOS 7.

According to a post on the Skype Garage blog, the release is major: “Today we’re introducing version 4.15 of Skype for iPhone and iPad,” writes Eric Lin Levine.

“We are always working to improve your experience on Skype and in this release we’ve reduced startup time so you can start chatting quicker, as well as addressed some of your feedback regarding Skype on iOS 7,” he adds.

The first thing mentioned in the changelog is a redesigned sign-in screen that should allow users to sign in much faster using either a Microsoft account or their usual Skype ID.

iOS 7 users will now get a new permissions pop-up to use the microphone for audio or video messages, as well as regular calls.

From within the Skype iOS app, customers will now be able access Skype WiFi on the App Store and download the app to “get online at over 2 million WiFi hotspots worldwide and only pay for the minutes you use with Skype Credit.”

The 4.15 update further includes performance improvements and the usual bag of fixes for the most reported bugs.

The iPhone version of Skype 4.15 supports iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5C, iPhone 5S, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), and iPod touch (5th generation), according to Eric Lin Levine.

The tablet version supports iPad, iPad 2, iPad (3rd generation), iPad (4th generation), iPad Mini, iPad Air, and iPad mini with Retina display. To use the app, iOS 5.0 or later is required.

“We recommend that everyone upgrades to the newly released Skype for iPhone and Skype for iPad applications from the Apple App Store,” adds Levine.

“We’re always looking to improve your experience on Skype and pay close attention to your feedback. To get the latest news and tips, follow us on Twitter and Facebook, or join us in the Skype Community.”
