But also for Apple Mac OS X, Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP

New imagery is available for download straight from Microsoft, designed to integrate seamlessly with the desktop real estate space on your copy of Windows Vista. The new content offered by the Redmond company is centered around the visual style associated with Silverlight, Microsoft's "cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in for delivering the next generation of media experiences and rich interactive applications (RIAs) for the Web."

According to the Redmond company, the new Silverlight wallpapers support the following operating systems: Windows 2000; Windows Server 2003; Windows Vista; Windows XP and, since the actual plug-in is cross platform, then so are the background images, also offered for Apple Mac OS X. And since Microsoft does not yet support Linux with Silverlight, the wallpapers and the open source operating system simply do not mix.

However, there is a small inadvertence between what Microsoft promises and what it actually delivers. Microsoft Silverlight Desktop Wallpapers supposedly offer: "Amazing Microsoft Silverlight desktop wallpapers for download. Use Microsoft Silverlight wallpapers on widescreen and standard sized desktop and select from two enchanting designs." But the reality is that there is a single file offered, namely "silverlight_dusk1_wide_1600x1050.jpg". Of course, at this point, it might be that Microsoft is yet to add the remaining wallpaper/wallpapers. Here is the download link in case you want to grab the Silverlight background.

This is not the first time that Microsoft has offered Silverlight-related content designed to act as wallpapers for Windows Vista. In April of this year, the Redmond company offered Microsoft Silverlight "Dusk" DreamScene (Standard) and Microsoft Silverlight "Dusk" DreamScene (Widescreen), video wallpapers for Vista Ultimate edition. Download available here. You can also follow this link in order to access additional wallpapers created with Windows Vista in mind.
