Microsoft has made available for download the documentation associated with its latest iteration of Silverlight. The Silverlight 3 Offline Documentation, up for grabs via the Microsoft Download Center, brings to the table content necessary for developers leveraging the version 3 of the Redmond company's alternative to Adobe Flash in their projects. The resource has been packaged as a .ZIP file weighing in at 58.4 MB, which went live in the first half of July.

“The CHM is nice if you're offline plus it's faster than the online content, has an index, and only contains Silverlight content. The plan is to update this CHM at the end of every month, so stop by when you want to download an update. If you open the CHM and cannot view content, do the following to resolve the issue: Right-click the CHM file, and then click "Properties". Click "Unblock". Double-click the .chm file to open the file,” revealed a member of the Silverlight SDK team.

Of course developers can also access the content online. Microsoft is offering developer documentation for Silverlight 3 on MSDN. Developers looking for the resources online will need to turn to the Silverlight Developer Center, and navigate to the Silverlight 3 section. Of course, as many devs have undoubtedly witnessed for themselves, MSDN content implies a tad of waiting to access various documents. The CHM alternative allows for greater speeds when accessing Silverlight 3 documentation.

Microsoft released Silverlight 3 in the first half of this month, namely on July 10, 2009. The full build string of the release to web development milestone is 3.0.40624.0, and concomitantly with Silverlight 3 the software giant also made available for download the tools designed to allow developers to get to work. In this context, devs can access the software development kit for Silverlight 3 as well as Silverlight 3 Tools for Visual Studio 2008 SP1.
