Along with Firefox 9, SeaMonkey 2.6, which is based on the same Gecko 9 layout engine and which shares plenty of code with Mozilla's star project, has been released.

Unsurprisingly, SeaMonkey 2.6 boasts essentially the same improvements and new features as Firefox 9. A big update is type inference for JavaScript which results in significantly improved performance, especially for JavaScript-heavy web apps.

SeaMonkey specific updates include Print Preview for the Composer and a channel indicator in the SeaMonkey about page.

SeaMonkey 2.6 also adds support for HMTL5 context menus, JavaScript checking for Do No Track option, chunking XHR requests, better support for HTML5, MathML, CSS and other under-the-hood improvements.

Existing users will get an update soon enough, everyone else can use the download links below to grab the latest version.

SeaMonkey 2.6 is available for Windows, Mac and Linux.
