A new version of Apple’s proprietary web browser, Safari, is now available for Mac and Windows customers with a bunch of fixes that improve the stability of the application, as well as other minor improvements and enhancements.

According to the tech company headquartered at 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, California, the Safari 5.1.2 release brings several improvements, including fixes that improve stability and address issues that could cause hangs and excessive memory usage.

The update further address issues that could cause webpages to flash white, and allows PDFs to be displayed within web content.

Available as a 40 MB download for OS X Lion, 47 MB for Snow Leopard, and 36.5 MB for Windows PC, Safari 5.1.2 is a free download for everyone.

The exact system requirements listed by Apple are: OS X Lion version 10.7.2, Mac OS X Snow Leopard version 10.6.8 and Security Update 2011-006, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.

Supported languages include Deutsch, English, Français, Español, Italiano, Nederlands, Dansk, Norsk Bokmål, Polski, Português, Português Brasileiro, Pусский, Suomi, Svensk, Albanian, Arabic, British English, Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Estonian, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indonesian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Macedonia, Malay Malaysia, Montenegro, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.

Safari 5 includes support for iCloud, Apple’s new set of free cloud services replacing MobileMe.

For Safari users in particular, iCloud stores bookmarks and the Reading List and automatically pushes them to all of the (supported) devices o customer owns.

iCloud requires Safari 5.1.1 on Windows, as well as the iCloud Control Panel for Windows. Weighing in at 40 megs, the iCloud Control Panel is required to use Photo Stream, Contacts and Calendars (Microsoft Outlook 2007 or later required) on Windows computers.
