Those who’ve marked "lose weight" as one of their new year’s resolutions should be extremely pleased to hear that RunKeeper Pro is available completely free of charge through the month of January. The app uses the GPS technology found in the iPhone to track the user’s fitness activity.

In a blog post dated December 30th, FitnessKeeper’s Jason writes: “We know that many of you look at the New Year as a good time to get started with or improve upon your fitness routines.”

“In an effort to encourage more people to get off the couch, and as a show of appreciation to the RunKeeper community for your terrific support for the last two and a half years, we’re making the RunKeeper Pro app free to download now through the end of January!”

It’s not only iOS customers that can download the 10-dollar app for free, but also Android phone users, Jason says.

The iPhone installment was recently named one of the top grossing iPhone apps of the year, FitnessKeeper brags.

RunKeeper Pro permits users to “motivate” their workouts with customizable audio cues during their activity for time, distance, pace, and speed, as well as to employ advanced coaching features to create customized interval workouts or set a target pace for an activity.

Last updated on October 31st, 2010, RunKeeper Pro 2.3.6.0 includes various tweaks and fixes, as well as new features, like database backups upon upgrading to a new version, and popups to inform users of new account creation, or when location services are disabled for RunKeeper.

“We hope that this helps give you or your friends and loved ones some extra motivation to get out there and log your miles or kilometers!” Jason adds.

“Whether you’re running, cycling or completing another fitness activity, we want to help you take your training to the next level with RunKeeper Pro,” he concludes.
