A new version of the full-featured movie converter, player, and editor for Mac OS X is now available from JS8 Media. ReelBean is capable of playing almost any Mac-supported video and audio format, and supports the use of third-party plugins that make proprietary formats available. The media-focused app is supported on all three major versions of Apple’s OS used today, and offers an extensive array of options to play around with various file formats.

In addition to the aforementioned features, ReelBean boasts video-editing functionality, and allows you to separate video from audio, split movies, or play back at a slower or faster rate. You have the ability to play your original DVD movies using the same features, and even stream videos that you can record and save to your Mac. You can access the window menu to navigate and select scenes and chapters available for a video, and choose just the parts that interest you. The Scene Selection feature permits you to jump to a scene by double-clicking it.

Sound settings, such as the bass and treble, can also be manipulated. ReelBean 4.53 makes the Record Audio feature available in the free version (previously, it was only available in the licensed version). Another change is a fixed bug that previously required manual resizing of the window when opening WMV files. The free version, however, doesn’t offer the ability to convert files. Speaking of which, the “converter” side of ReelBean assists users in exporting videos to many popular formats, including all iPod-, iPhone- and Apple TV-supported formats, as well as 3GP, AIFF, FLC, AVI, Wave and MPEG-4.

ReelBean is available for download using the link below. The software is supported on Mac OS X versions 10.4 (Tiger), 10.5 (Leopard) and 10.6 (Snow Leopard), and is a Universal Binary, good for both PowerPC and Intel architectures.
