Microsoft is making it easier for customers to access and test-drive what it called the “most significant Project release in a decade.” As it did with a range of additional pre-release and RTM pieces of software, the Redmond company has put together a virtual machine containing the first beta development milestone for Project Server 2010. According to the software giant, the pre-configured Virtual Machine is designed to streamline the evaluation process of Project Server 2010.
“Project Server 2010 Beta ensures organizations select and deliver the right projects, while gaining greater visibility and control of resources leading to improved productivity and better business performance,” Microsoft stated. “Participate in the Microsoft Project Server 2010 Beta and be the first to see how the innovative new capabilities can help organizations to: capture all types of work in a centralized demand management repository; select the right project portfolios and maximize resource utilization; build and conveniently update project schedules online; and create powerful dashboards and project reports.”
Microsoft Project Server 2010 Beta – Virtual Machine comes with support only for Windows Server 2008 R2. In this regard, the virtual machine has been built to work in conjunction with the hypervisor role in Windows Server 2008 R2, namely Hyper-V. Microsoft released
Project Professional 2010 Beta (32-bit) in 2009, and the Build continues to be available as a standalone download. Users will be able to find download links for both development releases at the bottom of this article.
“By adding Microsoft Project Professional 2010 Beta, enjoy powerful, visually enhanced ways to successfully manage and deliver a wide range of projects. Easier and more intuitive, Project Professional 2010 provides flexible choices to simplify planning, collaboration and resource management,” the company added. “This pre-release (beta) version is for evaluation purposes only. Upgrade to the final release version is not supported.”
