Users of QuickTime-based applications have a new update to download and install courtesy of Apple, namely ProApps QuickTime Codecs v1.0.4.

Among a truckload of updates released to end users and developers alike, Apple today is offering ProApps QuickTime Codecs v1.0.4, a lightweight 2.2MB package that adds new video codecs for use in QuickTime-based applications.

Newly-added codecs include: Apple Intermediate Codec, Apple ProRes, AVC-Intra, DVCPRO HD, HDV, XDCAM HD / EX / HD422, MPEG IMX, Uncompressed 4:2:2.

Apple recommends the update for Final Cut Pro X users in particular. The new build applies to Motion 5 and Compressor 4 (both FCP sidekick apps) as well.

The company says the system requirements are OS X 10.5.6 (Leopard) or later. However, Final Cut Pro X requires OS X 10.9 (Mavericks). QuickTime 7.6 or later is also needed, and the supported languages include English, German, French, Spanish, and Chinese. Download ProApps QuickTime Codecs v1.0.4 at the supplied link.
