Apple has updated its Support / Downloads section with a flurry of updates, including a new release of Aperture, a tool for the administration of ODBC-compliant data sources in Mac OS X, and, most recently, over a dozen printer drivers that are already included with Snow Leopard.

Although the Mac maker is yet to release the highly refined and much-optimized Snow Leopard, the company acted fast in delivering the necessary drivers to printer owners – Apple wants those printers ready to go under any circumstances. For any of the printer drivers posted on Apple’s Support / Downloads section, the company notes that the download includes printer-specific software that ships with Mac OS X v10.6 (Snow Leopard).

An additional Support article reveals that, “Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard includes software for many printer and scanner models [...] This software can be installed from the Mac OS X Install DVD, and updated by using Software Update (some models have software available through Software Update only).”

The company posted a table for users to view the complete list of printers and scanners that are supported with Mac OS X v10.6. Apple encourages readers to use their browser's Find feature and look for a specific name or model number. Another technote is aimed at setting up and using printers in Mac OS X v10.6.

List of printer drivers available in Mac OS X v10.6: Apple, Brother, Canon, Epson, Fuji-Xerox (FX), Gestetner, Hewlett-Packard (HP), Infotec, Lanier, Lexmark, NRG, Ricoh, Samsung, Savin, Xerox (includes Tektronix). According to Apple, other pieces of software include: Apollo, DEC, generic PCL, IBM, Kyocera, Minolta, NEC, Oki, Olympus, Panasonic, Sony, and others.

To download the necessary driver for your printer, use Softpedia. Go here and type “printer drivers” in the search field at the top of the page.
