VLC Media Player has recently reached version 2.1.0 on all platforms on the market, bringing quite a wide array of improvements supposed to enhance multimedia file playback with minimum user interaction.

The unofficial portable version of the app was officially released this morning, so you can now use VLC 2.1.0 on your computer without the need for prior installation.

While this isn’t an official port released by VideoLAN, it does pack the same improvements as the original build, bringing updates for the built-in tools, audio and video output support and video filters.

As far as the portable version of VLC Media Player is concerned, it should work fine on basically all Windows editions currently on the market, including the aging XP that’ll be retired in 2014, but also the soon-to-be-upgraded Windows 8.
