Oracle has rolled out a new version of VirtualBox, the company’s desktop virtualization software inherited from Sun Microsystems.A nasty bug affecting virtual machines on the latest version of Mountain Lion is being addressed in the new VirtualBox 4.2.1 from Oracle, whose engineers had pointed out the bug during the beta testing of OS X 10.8.2.
Customers upgrading to OS X 10.8.2 will get the following error when booting any VM.
“VT-x is being used by another hypervisor. (VERR_VMX_IN_VMX_ROOT_MODE). VirtualBox can't operate in VMX root mode. Please close all other virtualization programs. (VERR_VMX_IN_VMX_ROOT_MODE).”
Those who discovered the flaw report that this issue was already present in the 10.8.2 betas, “but it was not fixed on Apple's side.”
The Mac guest autoboot is also fixed in this release, as is “output of showvminfo–machinereadable on Windows hosts.”
