Norwegian software company Opera has just announced the release of a new version of their Opera Mobile browser for Symbian, namely the final flavor of Opera Mobile 10.1.

The new version of the mobile browser should offer users of Symbian/Series 60 Nokia smartphones the possibility to enjoy enhanced browsing features, with faster JavaScript performance.

“Making its debut in Opera Mobile 10.1 for Symbian is just-in-time compilation (JIT) performance optimization to the Carakan JavaScript engine, the same powerful engine that drives Opera’s desktop browser,” the company notes.

Opera Mobile 10.1 is reportedly up to nine times faster when compared to its predecessor, Opera Mobile 10.0, when it comes to the SunSpider JavaScript test.

Another new feature to the mobile web browser is support for geolocation. With Opera Mobile 10.1, both the user and the mobile phone on the map.

Via this feature, users would be able to take advantage of various web services, including maps and travel applications, which would recognize one's location to provide relevant content.

However, users would have the possibility to choose when and if Opera Mobile would share their location.

Other features are also there to make Opera Mobile 10.1 a great option for Symbian users:

- Pioneering features from Opera — such as Speed Dial, tabbed browsing, Opera Link and password manager — reduce the time and typing required to navigate your favorite websites.

- When slow network speeds put the brakes on your browsing, gear up with Opera Turbo compression. Opera servers shrink webpages to as little as 20 percent of their original size, reducing your data costs and turbo-charging your browsing speed.

- Opera Mobile fine-tunes the look and feel of your browsing with kinetic scrolling, a virtual keyboard and auto-rotation to landscape.

The new Opera Mobile 10.1 browser was made available for download for handsets running under Symbian^3, as well as for Symbian S60 3rd and 5th editions devices.

“Powerful smartphones deserve an equally powerful browser,” said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software. “Opera Mobile 10.1 today brings the best mobile browsing experience to the world’s most popular smartphone platform.”

Opera Mobile 10.1 is available as a free download from Softpedia too, via this link.
