Opera 11.10 codenamed Barracuda is extremely close to finalization. Illustrative of this is the latest development snapshot made available for download by Opera Software.

Build 2081 is the first Release Candidate of Opera 11.10, which of course signals the fact that the Norway-based browser vendor is getting extremely close to the point of wrapping up the next generation of Opera.

A specific availability deadline has not been announced yet, but of course, this is not how Opera Software operates.

Throughout the Alpha and Beta development stages of codenamed Barracuda, early adopters got to test the evolved Speed Dial, but also help Opera Software resolve a range of bugs and issues.

“This RC adds additional fixes to make Barracuda even more stable and streamlined. Several more crash bugs have been fixed, we have continued to polish Speed Dial, and there are numerous other fixes in there as well,” reveals a member of the Opera Desktop team.

“We have also reduced Opera's power consumption when the computer is running on battery. This means that benchmark scores may be lower on battery power alone, so make sure you plug in the power cord before running any benchmarks!”

Obviously, with Opera 11.10 RC available to testers, the focus of the development process now shifts to any problems that might block the final release of the browser.

Still, as was the case with previous Opera releases, early adopters can expect additional RC Builds to be offered for testing until version 11.10 is wrapped up.

“At this point, we are mostly interested in any major new problems or issues. We will of course continue to work on future versions even as we release Barracuda from its holding tank, so any fixes that didn't make it are candidates for a future version,” the Opera Desktop team representative added.

“But for now, please focus on possible release blockers for Barracuda. That will make it a lot easier for everyone when browsing through the comments.”
