Released September 9, 2010, Opera 10.62 is the latest stable version of the popular Internet-centric application from Opera Software, the Norwegian company developing and maintaining the most feature-packed web browser available today.

The browser’s makers say that Opera 10.62 is a recommended upgrade offering stability enhancements.

Changes since Opera 10.61 span the browser’s user interface, display and scripting, mail, news, and chat.

Fixes for the following issues have been incorporated in Opera 10.6.2:

- Selection jumps while backspacing in a rich text editor

- Opera closing when searching on hotels.com

- Not being able to click or select links or text

- Opera freezing when leaving a canvas, audio, or JavaScript game

- A missing plug-in dialog might cause Opera to close

- Bodyless documents causing Opera to close in accessibility mode

- Loading of streaming plug-ins in Opera Turbo

- Typing slowing down when there are many bookmarks

A couple of Mac-specific changes are listed as well. For once, entering text can be very slow on Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, the Norwegian software company recently found. This issue is said to have been resolved in Opera 10.6.2

The second addressed issue concerns enabling on demand plug-ins as the default for Mac 10.4 and PPC, Opera Software said.

As far as display & scripting is concerned, Opera has added more MIME file types and suffixes for compressed tar files.

Also in this area, the update fixes fallback not displaying for Java types when plug-ins are disabled, and an issue where items would disappear from the cache.

For mail, news, and chat, FastMail domains and hotmail.co.uk have been added to the email auto-configuration. Fixed is a problem with missing images in feed preview (media rss).
