Download Opera 10.61 Release Candidate 1 (RC1)

It has been almost a month since the delivery of the final version of Opera 10.60, and Opera Software is already hard at work cooking the first update for Build 3445. The Release Candidate development snapshot of Opera 10.61 is now available for download. Of course, as the RC label implies, Build 3452 is still pre-release software, and as such it comes with inherent problems. Opera 10.61 RC1 is designed for early adopters that want to test drive the next update to Opera 10.60, but certainly not for deployment into production environments.

It is important to note that Opera 10.61 doesn’t offer anything on top of version 10.60 of the browser, with the exception of a range of fixes delivered for issues impacting the successor of Opera 10.50. “It is exactly the same as 10.60 plus the fixes below,” revealed Ruari Ødegaard, from the Opera Desktop team.

Opera Software has dealt with a range of problems, including widgets failing to run, crashes for visitors to qq.com, mistaking binary files for text files, crashing on a demo involving HTML5 Canvas, corruption of content or freezing on print commands, etc. There are additional modifications noted in the changelog, but the emphasis has obviously been placed on resolving problems reported for Opera 10.60 rather than on anything else.
While the Norwegian browser maker is developing the first update to Opera 10.60, the company is also working on the next version of the browser. Opera Software continues to be committed to delivering Opera 10.70, which is also available for download in pre-release form. “We still intend to work towards a post 10.6x release (currently called 10.70). However, whilst you await that here is an initial release candidate for 10.61,” Ødegaard explained. At this point in time Opera Software offered no indication as to when it plans to finalize and offer Opera 10.61 or Opera 10.70 to users.
