14 DAY TRIAL // Just in case you need to warm up for tomorrow’s general availability of Opera 10.0, a new Release Candidate of the browser is currently available for download. At the end of the past week, Opera Software produced the second Release Candidate for Opera 10.0 and, considering the GA deadline, also the last RC development milestone. While launching Opera 10.0 RC2, the Norwegian browser make underlined that the general availability date for its latest iteration of Opera remained unchanged. In this regard, end users will be able to download the finalized build of Opera 10.0 on September 1st, 2009.
“We are still on track for a release on Tuesday, but we have managed to fix a few important crash bugs, and also have a couple of fixes for pages that never stop loading ("NSL"). Please let us know if the "NSL problem" has improved or not,” revealed a member of the Opera Desktop team. “Apart from that, we have fixed some icon issues on Windows and Unix, and widgets should be working again after upgrading from Opera 9. There are also a few other fixes, so take a look at the changelog for more details.”
Opera Release Candidate 1 preceded the availability of the RC2 build by just a few days, a clear indication that the browser maker is in the final stretch. Supporting this is the fact that Opera Unite is being ignored, at least for the time being. “We do not have an updated Unite build this time around since we are focusing on getting Opera 10.0 out the door,” the Opera Desktop Team member added.
Opera 10.0 will become generally available for users tomorrow and will bring to the table a variety of changes, from a revamped icon, to an overhauled GUI, to additional performance gains. Opera highlighted the changes introduced with RC2 in Opera 10.0: “a couple of possible fixes for pages that never stop loading (NSL); stability fixes; native skin fixes; widgets should work when upgrading from 9.64 and icon fixes for Windows and Unix.”
