A new development of the next iteration of the Opera browser is now available for download. Opera 10.0, codename Peregrine, Build 1345 is the latest release out of the Alpha stage of the browser's development process. Opera is building Opera 10.0 in parallel with its rivals' efforts to also develop the next iterations of their browsers. Microsoft is cooking Internet Explorer 8, Google is making headway with Chrome 2.0, while Mozilla will “upgrade” Firefox 3.1 to Firefox 3.5 starting with Beta 4 of codename Shiretoko.

“We've finally got a new snapshot available for testing,” revealed a member of the Opera team. “This is a development snapshot: it contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all. This time around there are lots of fixes all over. Some things are work in progress, such as the spell checking feature.”

Opera 10.0 Build 1345 lives up to its Alpha label. In this context, the Norway-based browser maker informed that the latest development milestone comes to the table with a range of issues. Users testing version 10.0 should be aware of the fact that “sending private messages at Facebook doesn't work. Comments at digg.com overlap. Spelling checker isn't working for some users. If the Opera Mail lexicon is corrupt, it isn't correctly recovered. The names in the online feed dropdown are not showing correctly in the feed preview page,” The Opera team representative added.

Fixes for platform-specific problems in Opera 10.0 Build 1345 Alpha affect all the various flavors of the browser, tailored to Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. Build 1345 brings to the table a set of autoupdate fixes, which should allow end users to disable the feature altogether, as well as resolves designed to improve stability. In addition, Opera 10.0 Build 1345 Alpha features “some UI cleanup and polishing (moved "Remove From Toolbar" and other toolbar customization options into a submenu, added the ability to reset toolbar customization, and the mail spinner should look better),” the Opera team member stated.
