Titanium Software has updated OnyX for Snow Leopard to version 2.2.6. A multifunction utility that enables you to verify the startup disk and the structure of its system files, Onyx comes in helpful for running miscellaneous maintenance and cleaning tasks, configuring parameters in Finder, and the Dock, deleting caches, removing problematic folders and files, and rebuilding databases and indexes.

Although regarded as a typical system maintenance tool, OnyX features advanced diagnostic tools, and acts as a powerful cleaning utility.

Onyx allows users to see detailed configuration information, and offers the ability to save a Desktop before modifying and relaunching the Finder.

[admark=1]Version 2.2.6 was just released with improvements in deleting Internet caches, deleting the Applications cache, as well as deleting the Diagnostic Reports.

It adds a new Safari option - "Enable/disable Safari's image cache," and a new Dock option - "Enable/disable the single application mode."

The app works with all PowerPC and Intel computers running Mac OS X version 10.5 (Leopard), or Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard (Intel only). Mac OS X 10.6.7, the newest version of Snow Leopard, is supported.

Mac OS X 10.4 is also supported by OnyX for Tiger, as is Mac OS X 10.3 (OnyX for Panther) and Mac OS X 10.2 (OnyX for Jaguar).

Softpedia readers can download their supported version using the link below. All iterations are free to download and use for as long as necessary.

NOTE

OnyX must be run from an admin account, in order to run correctly. It is very important to back up your data before using OnyX. If your computer freezes, don't worry, OnyX cannot destroy the System. If your computer freezes during the verification of the volume, it is a completely normal behavior, according to Titanium Software. Once OnyX is finished checking, control will be returned to you.
